Huggies to Kim Lee of FunDanzers for pursuing to have this event to be held at Country Heights. Also known as the Beverly Hills of Malaysia, the drive towards the clubhouse amidst the surrounding lush greenery and ponds offered tranquility and serenity. The fast-paced chaos and tension-filled days of 21st century living gave way immediately to a fully charged up afternoon of summer line dance fun.
From 4 pm onwards, the clubhouse in Kajang became a sizzling-hot haven; the dance floor packed with colourful and interestingly-dressed line dancers who are light on their feet.
Non-stop dancing started with floor fillers such as Guyton Mundy’s Ah-Ah-Ah followed by Be Strong, Come Dance with Me, Betcha Neva, Bosa Nova, Cupidly Stupid, Celtic Kittens and more. Rockin’ Robin arrived shortly; but whilst HappyFeet greedily gobbled delicious satay (a form of skewered barbeque meat) with abandoned delight, he was left with the mean task of observing the dance crowd to determine dance teaches for the day.

We were indeed spoilt for choice, but happily left the decision making to Sizzlin’ Robin. 4 fabulous dance teaches by him were:
THAT THING YOU DO Choreographed by Robin Sin to That Thing You Do! by The Wonders.
This track is a catchy tune that perfectly evokes the mid-sixties. Likewise, the dance is a well-crafted sweet-spirited one. This dance is choreographed with intent to bring back smiles and wipe out deeply etched frowns which are prevalent on our faces lately. A most welcomed respite.
NEXT TO ME Choreographed by Charlotte Macari to Next To Me by Shayne Ward
We progressed into this 32-count easy intermediate dance. From the swinging sixties, we were shown how to be more funky when executing the options and stylings available in this dance. Sizzlin’ Robin made it as easy as ABC – asking us to imagine ourselves as Taiwan Alishan’s tribal dancers doing their folk dance, when executing count 29-30.
FUNKY PARADISE Choreographed by Robin Sin to Shining Star by Ruben Studdard.
The West Malaysians got wind of this dance that was taught during Gangsta Paradise, and pestered Sizzlin’ Robin to teach. The wonder about this dance is that both restarts and ending are at the same wall. Absolutely fabulous. By the end of his teach, we were like sure-footed cats. The Sizzler gave us some useful tips as well so as not to hurt our knees whilst handling the traveling swivels. To perfect your applejacks, he directed us to check out Cripple Creek by Kip Sweeney.
WITH THESE EYES Choreographed by Darren Bailey and Niels B. Poulsen to “With These Eyes” by Roch Voisine
An enchanting 2-wall Night Club line dance. The dance hall was in complete silence as we listened intently to the music and waited patiently to start the dance on the word EYES…..when the sound of computer game played by Kim Lee’s son suddenly reverbrated through the hall. Everyone broke out into laughter and excited chatter. Roch’s soulful voice easily lulled us into gliding on the dancefloor in a dreamy state.
Superb dance teaches; despite the Sizzler having only 3 hours’ sleep and being swept straight to our event upon arrival. He was suffering from serious bus-lag (not sure how that happens, as his country of origin is of the same time zone as ours) but nevertheless, was brimming with solar energies.
7 hours. That was the duration of this summer event. We thought it would be miraculous to only see one Last Man Standing at 11pm when the last dance was played, but we were proven wrong. Agnes, lovely wife of inimitable Jerry Low, came forth with her dance requests which we happily accommodated. Looks like we have this great Malaysian Boleh (can-do) attitude. We could go on and on and on….

Terima kasih to friends from Kajang, Seremban, KL/PJ and Christine Chan who brought LD Kakis from Klang. It is really a case of Summer Dancing Had Us a Blast. The photos bear testimony of how well sizzled we were.

To-date, we have elbowed our way to get Rockin’ Robin to share 39 excellent dances with us over this one year. Would there be more to come? Certainly, but first, HappyFeet will be taking a summer break.

We'll be back pretty soon and give you a glimpse of some of the things we have in store for you on our return.
Yours in HappyShoes
