He WAS here before hazy skies took over - your weekend dance therapist!

ROCKIN’ ROBIN is arguably the ultimate laugh inducer. How else can you describe a being who could saunter around coolly in his Mickey Mouse shirt; and elicit smiles and laughter amidst confusion and stress?

Workshop on last Sunday at Halo Café, the Curve debuted with a quick reteach of Gentlemen, and the hours swiftly flew by with yet again well-researched quality dances.

GENTLEMEN choreographed by Linda Burgess to "Gentlemen" by Lou Bega

Great wakeup dance. From the laughter that filled the café, we know that everyone is wide awake and having fun. Remember the sounds from squeaky broken record?

MJ MOVES Choreographed by Michele Perron & Jo Thompson to “Neighbourhood” by Drizabone, “Hit 'Em Up Style (Oops)” by Blu Cantrell

Now we know why this is Robin’s perennial favourite. An easy, funky dance with smooth moves. What else could we ask for? And you get to dance to fast or slow tracks. Something for everyone. This dance has been around for awhile, but like vintage wine, it gets better.

PIRATES OF DANCE Choreographed by Peg-leg Pete & Ahoy! Alison to “Pirates Of Dance” by Dj Bobo

Finally, we get to have a Dance Maestro to teach us this much-talked about dance. He effortlessly guided us through slippery deck, restart our journey, walk the plank and allow us to scream our lungs out and lead us safely to the end of the voyage. Now, if you ever need one to regain your ship, you can set your hopes on Pirate Robin.

DON’T CHA Choreographed by Shaz Walton to “Don’t Cha” by The Pussycat Dolls featuring Buster Rhymes

This is an impromptu request, and boy, a 100% funky track with lots of great stylings taught by Robin. Amazing! The fourth dance and yet the dance floor was still filled up.

Some of us were lucky to catch up with Robin on the evening before; who obligingly taught us another batch of great dances:

BETCHA NEVA Choreographed by Rob Fowler to “Betcha Neva” by Cherie

Robin cheekily gave us a false start to test our alertness. Good choice of dance as this is a great dance to equally great track. It has two restarts on the 9 o’clock wall. Easy to remember. No sweat.

GORDITA LINDA Choreographed by Max Perry to "La Gorda Linda" by Arthur Hanlon

In other words, Little Fat One. What a catchy tune – it’s an ode to all women with real curves. And the dance itself – is such a lively cheerful one. Certainly one that will be a favourite at dance parties!

TAKE IT TO D FLOOR Choreographed by Yvonne Anderson & Bryan McWherter to “Take It To The Floor” by B2K

Be forewarned. The song is excellent and very upbeat; and will entice you to be at the dance floor each time you hear it. Simply marvelous funky dance.

Thanks, Robin for the fun-packed weekend and getting us updated with a good mix of dances. It is going to be a rather agonizing wait till his next visit here on September 24-25. But we know the wait is worth it, as he will be bring none other than the delectable DAWN SHERLOCK.

And as always, we can count on him to bring the bar up in his workshops.

For now, it’s countdown time till we have him and Dawn in our midst again! If you have time to peep into Robin’s website www.thewildwestsg.net , do leave your mark by signing in his guestbook :)

Finally and most importantly, a toast to all who came for the workshops. Next month, we will have a dance party thrown in too; and naturally the dance list will include all of the above and:

* Drive Me Wild
* Hit the Freeway
* Gentlemen
* Patrizio’s Rhumba
* Envious
* Everything I Do
* Get on That
* Shark Bait
* Sierra Rose

Until then, continue to don on your shoes, review above dances and let me know if you have any dance requests. Stay tune, more details will be sailing in about September with Robin & Dawn.
