He did it again!
Another great weekend learning 4 dances that went well with everybody; despite the sweltering heat and hungry groaning stomachs. But with the boundless laughter created by the funny analogies that Robin trademarkedly uses during his teaches, we survived well on water and hot air.
Rockin' Robin from Singapore has braved the bus-lag and survived Malaysian food and loads of shopping - but as usual, turned up well- in tune with music and rhythm to give fabulous teaches on:
DRIVE ME WILD choreographed by Scott Blevins to "Pop" by N Sync
He certainly drove us wild with this first number. Though the dance has been around since 1997, nevertheless, it was given a fresh breath of air and fits so well with the music `Pop'.
HIT THE FREEWAY choreographed by Dee Musk to "Hit the Freeway" by Toni Braxton
Another funky one. I never knew that it is so easy and one can look cool doing that `Left Dip Step' just by acting out an analogy made up by Robin.
GENTLEMEN choreographed by Linda Burgess to "Gentlemen" by Lou Bega
We became grinning bobcats doing this. Fun easy dance; it was easy to detect where the tags and restart would be as the effervescent Robin guided us by reminding us of how squeaky broken records could sound like.
PATRIZIO'S RHUMBA choreographed by Max Perry to "A Man Without Love" Patrizio Buanne
Who can not fall in love with this dance? Believe me, it IS easy to learn despite the lengthy instructions on the stepsheet. As in Gentlemen, Robin taught us to do a grand finale facing the front wall. What a great befitting dance to end the mini workshop.
Since Robin is such an eloquent dancer, we have cunningly requested him to recap the dances he taught in his mini-workshop in May.
* Cha Cha Slide
* Envious
* Everything I Do
* Get on That
* Shark Bait
* Sierra Rose
He danced Celtic Tribute (Maggie Gallagher); much to everyone's delight. Simple
showcase with no frills, but nevertheless, very spell-binding and inspiring
to watch.
The hours flew by so swiftly. We did not get to do the following dances that we have earmarked earlier on –
* Speechless (Tom Mickers)
* Pirates of Dance (Peg-Leg Pete & Ahoy! Alison)
* Gossip (Robin Sin)
* Infinity (Robin Sin)
But oh well, all the more reason to have him back again in the first weekend
of August! And we know that in his quest to do his best to please the majority
of us, we can look forward to well researched fabulous dances to equally great
tracks – with a good mix to cater for all levels and dance tastes!
Chow for now, Robin. By the look of your website : http://www.thewildwestsg.net, we know that you spare no efforts in dishing out the best and nothing but the best.
And to all who could not wait for his monthly trips to Kuala Lumpur, check out Robin's Wild West Singapore's events happenings; and remember to bring your dance shoes across the Causeway!
And you know something…all of you who were there on Sunday, you are marvelous!
Cheers,
Happy Khim
